Start Your Substack
Modality: Virtual
Saturday, March 7th 10am - 12pm
Age Group: All Ages
Skill Level: Anyone who can use a computer
Description: In this discussion-based workshop, writers will be given the tools to create a Substack. Substack is the newest website craze for writers who want to put things out but don't want the rigamarole of the publishing industry. It's like a blog, wearing a fancy hat. The site formats your work in a template that follows most major news sites. So, it really gives your work an elegant feel. Plus, you now have a digital database to showcase your writing. Some people even set up subscriptions for their work! It's a very lucrative but also fun way to showcase your writing.
Key components include:
Navigating the Site: drafting and publishing work
Building your platform: what topics are hot vs. what do you want to write about. Will this be a diary entry, blog, poetry forum or Carrie Bradshaw's column?
Engaging in discourse: finding like-minded, and maybe not so like-minded writers to follow
Revision Protocols: Building a repeatable editorial workflow that supports stronger drafts and a more confident writing practice.
By the end of this workshop, participants will leave with a fully functioning Substack and their first draft of a post ready to go!
