Description

Starting a business can feel overwhelming when you are unsure what needs to be set up, registered or organised first.

This practical beginner-level workshop will guide you through the essentials of starting and operating a small business. It is suitable for people considering starting a business, new sole traders and existing small business owners who want to check they have the right foundations in place.

Facilitated by experienced business owner and advisor Colin Jorgensen, the session will cover the practical steps that are often overlooked when moving from an idea or home-based venture into a functioning business.

What we will cover

  • ABNs, business names and basic registrations

  • Licences, permits and council requirements

  • Setting up a separate business bank account

  • Record keeping, quoting and invoicing

  • Business insurance to investigate

  • Basic pricing considerations

  • Establishing an online presence

  • Free business support and resources available

  • Common gaps to check before you start trading

You will receive a practical start-up checklist to work through during the session and take home, helping you identify what you have already completed and what still needs attention.

There will also be time to ask questions and learn from the experiences of other people starting and running small businesses.
