Starting a Systematic Review: From question to search

This event has passed Register

Event description

Do you know the difference between a systematic search and a systematic review? Or what a systematic and scoping review have in common?

This workshop series will tell you all of these answers and more. It's highly recommended to attend all 3 sessions as we take you step by step through the stages of developing the search strategy for your protocol.

Part 1: Systematic: a buzzword, philosophy or a methodology?
Wed 5 May: 10-11 am

UTS Librarians will discuss the differences between a systematic search and a systematic review as well as tips and techniques for composing an appropriate research question that will guide your search or review. This session will also look at other types of reviews such as scoping and rapid reviews.

Part 2: From question to protocol
Wed 12 May: 10-11 am

A protocol is a living document that guides how you will conduct your review. It is an integral part of the review process which promotes transparency and reduces bias. UTS Librarians will discuss what goes into this document, resources to support you, and how to start building a robust search strategy.

Part 3: Putting your search strategy to work
Wed 19 May: 10-11:30 am

Each database has its own structure, syntax, and disciplinary context. This section of the workshop outlines the process of ‘translating’ a search strategy into a query for a database, and how to tweak the results.

Audience

Best suited for those that have some experience with database searching and are planning to undertake a systematic or scoping review.

If this doesn't fit your needs, we recommend attending our Best practice for literature searching workshop.

*Please note: These workshops will be recorded. Slides and recordings will be made available to registered participants. If you cannot attend the session but would like to access the material, please register for a ZOOM ticket.
