Event description

Are you and Elder Woman who has trouble finding affordable housing?

Have you thought about finding others to co-create a cluster of homes together to save costs of living and be more socially connected?

Collaborative living arrangements of 5-15 self-contained homes sharing resources based upon the cohousing model is becoming more common within our Aussie housing landscape.

What makes it work? A structured process of building the social community first.

Djason Hilder studied co-living, cohousing and ecovillages from around the world during his PhD research to discover what works and solutions to challenges when they arise. He has also lived in several collaborative communities throughout Southeast Queensland and now provides services through Co-Creating Community to support groups build their community.

In collaboration with Q-Shelter, Innovation House, Housing Older Women (HOW), Djason will support you to go through the essential steps in starting a living arrangement that is different to other forms of housing:

  1. Forming your individual vision of community
  2. Co-creating a group vision
  3. Governance and decision making
  4. Different points of view and managing conflicts
  5. Sharing and contribution
  6. Membership
  7. Legal and financial arrangements
  8. Making it happen: where, when and how

We'll work together with a mixture of information sharing, group participation and practicing the skills of communal interaction. At the end is likely that you'll have a detailed plan for making your housing community happen.

As this is a communal process the invitation is to bring food to share for lunch each day. Refreshments for morning and afternoon tea will be provided.
