Within every challenge lies an opportunity to cultivate strength, adaptability, and connection. This gathering isn’t just about preparedness — it’s about learning how to stay rooted and resourced in relationship with land, community, and spirit.

Join us for a practical, holistic guide to emergency preparedness that goes beyond checklists and fear-based planning.

Together, we’ll explore:

• The core pillars of emergency preparedness

• Practical steps to build an emergency support team & shared resources

• The foundations of a go-bag & crisis plan

• Interactive emergency preparedness stations to support hands-on learning

Because when we stay ready, we don’t have to get ready. Let’s fortify ourselves for the unknown—together.

This offering is donation-based — choose the amount that feels right for you at this moment. Suggested donation: $10 - $40. Minimum donation $1.

• This is a masked event. KN95 masks will be provided at the door if you don't have one. HEPA air filters will be running indoors.

• The main entrance and front meeting room has no steps. There are four steps and a wheelchair lift available to enter the ballroom where the workshop will be taking place.

• There are gender neutral, wheelchair accessible bathrooms within the building. One of the bathrooms has grab bars, but not fully ADA-compliant.

Meet Your Facilitators

Jamani Ashé is a community organizer, outdoor educator, and lineage weaver. They are the founder and lead steward of Sankofa Roots, a land-based learning and healing organization grounded in place-based survival knowledge, emergency preparedness, and cultural reclamation for Black, Indigenous, and Queer communities. Jamani’s work weaves earth-based arts, nervous system wisdom, and ancestral technologies for care and survival into pathways toward collective safety, sovereignty, and remembering. Their teaching invites participants to meet crisis with skill, confidence and compassion, and to come into right relationship with land, lineage, and one another. Their work is threaded with deep strategy, spirit, and a little holy mischief.

Gabby Abebe is a Black Queer creator and community medicine maker from the DMV. They are a steward of Sankofa Roots. Gabby specializes in cleansing & protection work, nervous system attunement, and grief medicine. When she's not spending time with her loved ones (plants & people, alike), Gabby enjoys making candles & ceramics, communing with their guides, and training in fire, first aid, and archery.

Lauryn Newson is a land steward and forest janitor, working primarily in the Oak Woodlands and Redwood groves in Pomo Territory. She has a deep affinity for fire, supporting prescribed and cultural burns throughout northern CA. She started working with Sankofa Roots in 2020 in response to her search for community and desire to learn survival skills amid the multiple crises of that time, and has since built a working relationship with them as a trainer and collaborator. Lauryn continues to expand outward, beyond the reaches of the city and into our forests and landscapes, reconnecting with the skills and life ways that keep us connected to our humanity and purpose on this planet. Emergency preparedness is just one of Lauryn’s love languages, which she believes is an outward expression and invitation into care in community.
