Staying ahead of the game - opportunities & requirements with carbon farming
Event description
As markets, banks and insurance companies seek to meet their carbon emission commitments, farmers may need to start demonstrating low emission farming practices through their supply chain.
Join us for two practical and interactive workshops to find out what you need to know! On day 1 local soil scientist Declan McDonald will discuss how improving soil health also increases soil carbon. He’ll provide an introduction to the principles and practices of carbon farming. Farmers are encouraged to bring their questions and to discuss management challenges to prioritise carbon capture.
Local farmer and presenter Nick Dudley (who has worked for on carbon projects for Ag Vic) will cover:
How to calculate and track your farm’s emissions
Using carbon accounting tools
An intro to developing an on-farm emissions action plan
On Day 2 Nick Dudley will support participants to enter their farm details into a digital tool to calculate emissions and look at actions they can take on-farm to offset these.
Declan and Nick are both engaging speakers, with 45 years of experience between them.
Farmers should attend both sessions to get the full picture and make the most of this independent & free learning opportunity.
