Event description

Event Details

Staying Healthy on a Hot Planet is a community forum brought to you by Doctors for the Environment Australia.

The forum will discuss how we can keep ourselves and our families healthy in a warming world.

Will will look at how to stay safe from the impacts of heat and heatwaves, bushfires and smoke inhalation.

And we will discuss how to support our mental health as we face a hotter planet and hear real world stories of how people cope.

There will be a brief opening presentation by Dr Kate Wylie, followed by a panel discussion with RN Sarah Ripley, Nutritionist Rebecca Stonor and Psychiatrist Dr Rob Ferris.

We welcome questions from attendees and aim to make this an interactive supportive event.

About our panellists

Dr Kate Wylie: General Practitioner and ED of Doctors for the Environment Australia. Kate applies a medical model to the climate crisis and as such offers a treatment plan for climate change. She seeks to activate her audience so they can help create the paradigm shift that we need to combat the climate crisis.   “Our planet is worth saving, and so are we.”

Sarah Ripley is a dedicated Sustainable Healthcare champion and Registered Nurse, actively advancing environmental initiatives within the healthcare sector. As an engaged member of Climate Action Nurses, she advocates for impactful, eco-conscious practices that address climate change and improve health outcomes.

Rebecca Stonor is the CEO of Doctors for Nutrition and is a passionate advocate for whole food plant-based nutrition with a strong background in science. She graduated with honours in Biological and Environmental Science from Flinders University and worked for nearly two decades in plant science. Certified in plant-based nutrition through eCornell University, Rebecca combines her scientific expertise with a love for communicating the benefits of plant-based nutrition to educate and inspire a global audience.

Dr Rob Ferris: Born in South Australia, Rob studied medicine and trained as a psychiatrist before decamping to England. He stayed for thirty years, working in the NHS as a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist, mostly in Oxford, before retiring and returning to Australia five years ago.
