What would you do if someone told you your account had been compromised?

And how can you make your online accounts safer without making technology even more complicated?

Online scams are becoming increasingly convincing, and it can be difficult to know what to trust.

Staying Safe Online is a friendly, practical workshop designed especially for seniors who want to feel safer and more confident using technology.

This isn't just a presentation.

We'll look at realistic examples, work through activities together and practise some simple habits you can use every day.

What we'll cover

During the workshop, you'll learn:

• Common warning signs of scams

• How to check suspicious emails and text messages

• What to do when you're unsure whether something is genuine

• How to make passwords safer and easier to manage

• Why two-factor authentication matters

• How account recovery works

• What to do if you think you've clicked something you shouldn't have

• Simple habits that can make your digital life more secure

What you'll do

Activity 1 – Scam or Safe?

You'll examine realistic examples of emails, text messages and online messages and decide:

Scam, genuine or not sure?

We'll then work through the clues together.

Activity 2 – Your Account Security Check

Use a simple checklist to review the security of your most important online accounts, including passwords, two-factor authentication and recovery information.

Activity 3 – My "Something's Not Right" Plan

Create a simple step-by-step plan for what you'll do if you receive a suspicious message, accidentally click a link or think one of your accounts has been compromised.

You'll leave knowing that you don't have to panic when something doesn't look right — you have a plan.

What to bring

Please bring:

• A pen

• Your mobile phone if you have one

• Any scam messages or suspicious emails you'd like to discuss

Please don't bring or share your passwords.

You don't need to be confident with technology to attend. Everything will be explained in plain English, at a comfortable pace.
