In Her Words: Live From Baringo
Description
A special livestream event to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Child, Early and Forced Marriage
Every three seconds, a girl somewhere in the world is married before her 18th birthday.
In Baringo County, Kenya, our local team estimates that up to 60% of girls are at risk of female genital cutting and child marriage, and for many, that is when their education ends.
On Thursday 26th November – the eve of the first International Day for the Elimination of Child, Early and Forced Marriage – we're going live from Baringo to hear from our local team, who are challenging these statistics every day and working towards a world where every girl is safe and can stay in school without the fear of being married off.
Join us as we introduce you to our work that’s keeping girls in the classroom where they belong, including our Keeping Girls in School project and Ambassadors of Hope initiative. Later, hear from Moureen, a So They Can Msomi Scholar alumna, as she shares her own story of how she ran away from home to avoid child marriage.
You'll also meet some of our Ambassadors of Hope participants, who will tell you about what school means to them, and the futures they're working towards.
When: Thursday 26 November, 10:30am Kenya (EAT) / 6:30pm AEDT / 8:30pm NZDT / 7:30am UK (GMT)
Where: Via Zoom - a link will be emailed to you following registration and before the event.
