Steel City Sue & the Smoke Stacks (Newcastle)
Steel City Sue & the Smoke Stacks live on Awabakal and Worimi country and bring their own brand of acoustic trad-infused 'industrial ragtime folk'. Sue wrote award-winning song Boom Town and is forging a new songbook for Newcastle and Hunter Valley - coal, industrial transition, trains n all. Matters of the heart, driving and a changing climate also feature in this fiddle-driven repertoire.
The trio of multi-instrumentalists features the magnificent musicianship of Naomi Jones (Midnight Chicken) and Tim Merrikin (Hunter Valley Ramblers, Zeal.H) - with Sue and Naomi ripping into twin fiddles, swapping out banjo, guitar - with a little melodica and Cajun accordion on the side.

The Rocky Bottom Girls (Armidale)
Hailing from the Anaiwan high country of NSW Northern Tablelands, the Rocky Bottom Girls bring you heartfelt songwriting and toe-tapping tunes. The Rocky Bottom Girls are sisters Sujata and Jhana Allan (fiddle, banjo, mandolin), storyteller / songwriters Clara Murray and Craig Johnson (guitar, bass, bodhran, bass) and Jess Stocker on drums.
RBGs play original songs touching on heartbreak, climate change, rogue dogs and toast, as well as dance worthy traditional old-time tunes. They have delighted audiences at Dorrigo and Illawarra folk festivals, at many a local gig, and with their 2024 debut album ‘Dorrigo Squash Club’.

All-in hillbilly bop to take out the night

The Rocky Bottom Girls and Steel City Sue crew met many years ago through a love of Appalachian ‘old time’ music - so the last set will see both bands pile in together to play some hillbilly dance tunes to get the hall shuffling and jumping.
