Stefano Rocco Quartet
Description
Italian-born, Sydney-based guitarist and composer Stefano Rocco leads the Stefano Rocco Quartet, presenting original music at the crossroads of modern jazz and cinematic atmosphere.
Founded in 2019, the quartet has released two albums to date: A New Night, A New Day (2020) and Wildlife (2025). Across both recordings, Stefano Rocco’s compositions explore lyrical melodies, rich harmonies, dynamic grooves and spacious soundscapes, creating music that combines the intimacy of jazz with a strong sense of musical storytelling.
Described as a “humanistic approach to jazz, creating soothing and heartwarming soundscapes” by Nikos Fotakis on Australianjazz.net, the quartet’s music moves naturally between delicate, atmospheric passages and energetic, rhythmically driven sections. Their live performances invite audiences on a sonic journey through contrasting moods and atmospheres.
Influenced by artists such as Pat Metheny, the Stefano Rocco Quartet has developed a distinctive contemporary sound that is both soulful and adventurous, balancing melodic accessibility with exploratory spirit. The quartet has performed across Australia and Europe, with performances in Italy, Germany, Belgium, Slovenia and Denmark, as well as numerous appearances on the Australian jazz scene. The quartet’s second album, Wildlife, received international recognition, with Eric Myers of The Australian describing it as “very impressive” and praising its “faultless sound balance”.
