Steiner Nature Playgroup, term 2

This event has passed Get tickets

Event description

A 100% all-weather outdoor nature playgroup, Fledglings nature playgroup is for children aged 0-5 accompanied by their parent or carer.

Our program aims to foster curiosity, wonder, and respect for nature through our session’s seasonal rhythms, nature play, storytelling, and craft.

It aims to provide children opportunities to be outdoors in all weather, come both rain and shine. The program is held in the magic woods (Freshwater Creek Reserve) and is run by experienced leaders in Steiner education, early childhood, and outdoor education.

What we do

Our mornings have a nurturing rhythm that holds the group together throughout the year.

Once everyone has arrived, we gather together for a morning verse and some songs, then move to our nearby bush location for some craft and nature play which may include cubby making, climbing trees, or exploring the local creek. Children at this time may also help prepare our shared morning tea of seasonal fruit while parents are invited to take part in some craft. This craft will be related to our seasonal story and provide you with a little keepsake you can take home for your family to enjoy.

We then join together again for some songs before heading out on a nature walk to observe seasonal changes in our environment. We finish by returning to our original meeting location for some morning tea and a bush story.

What to wear/bring

Protective clothing is vital to ensure the children are kept comfortable and dry throughout the year while attending this program. Sturdy shoes are needed along with sun-smart clothing in terms 1 and 4, and warm clothing and wet weather gear in terms 2 and 3.

Whilst we provide some morning tea, we also please ask you to bring along a piece of fruit to share for our communal morning tea and some additional healthy snacks (nut-free) and water for your child as we find that they often get very hungry with all the activity that we do throughout our morning.

Please note that parents must accompany their child as it is not a rostered Playgroup. Parents and carers are asked to encourage their child to follow directions from the playgroup leader. We also ask that parents and carers follow the directions of the playgroup teacher and assist in monitoring the boundary when the children play in our nature areas. Please note that cameras and mobile phones are not to be used during the morning (except for phones in emergencies).

Refund policy

SEVERE WEATHER CANCELLATION We are an 'all weather' program, meaning our sessions will go ahead, as long as it is safe to do so. Severe weather may include but not be limited to: • Thunderstorms • Strong winds with the risk of branches falling • Flash flooding • Fire danger If severe weather is forecast, the session may be cancelled in advance (the day before or earlier, when possible) and we will offer you a credit towards another session. However, if a session goes ahead but is cut short due to severe weather we will not be able to offer any credit or refund. WET WEATHER Temporary rain shelters will be erected on rainy days, however, participants will very likely still get wet, which is part or the program. Please ensure that you and your child are appropriately dressed, and pack a spare change of clothing to get changed into at the end of the session. ABSENCE/ SICK POLICY Unfortunately KIN Surf Coast cannot offer refunds or make-up days when an attendee is absent due to illness or other commitments. As our programs fees, costs, resources and staffing are based on particular ratios, refunds will only be issued if a session is cancelled by KIN Surf Coast. PAYMENT OF FEES Payment of fees must be made via Paypal, or Direct Deposit at the time of booking. PROGRAM CANCELLATION DUE TO INSUFFICIENT NUMBERS Programs require a minimum of 10 attendees to go ahead. If a program is cancelled on our end due to minimum numbers not being met, you will be offered a full refund or the option to attend another available program or time slot. ABSENCE (sick) POLICY Because fees, costs, resources, and staffing are based on particular ratios, KIN Surf Coast, unfortunately, cannot offer ‘make-up’ days or offer refunds if an attendee is absent due to illness.
