STEKAskills cabaret night with Mairi Campbell, Davie Luhanga, Sarah Hoy, Fin Moore and Chef - an evening sharing music, food and community for Malawi

Award winning musicians Mairi Campbell and Davie Luhanga thrilled their audience when they first shared a stage in 2019,

They grew up on different continents, but have experimented with a range of styles and sounds to interpret and analyse their lived experiences, histories and cultures through music, song and theatre.

We are delighted that more amazing Scottish musicians will be joining them at this event to raise funds for the charity STEKAskills.

Acclaimed traditional musicians, fiddler Sarah Hoy and piper Fin Moore will extend the insight into traditional Scottish culture and storytelling and Chef will share an indie folk-rock music perspective.

The £20 ticket price includes a plate of hot home made food and there will be a cash / card bar and stall selling unique Malawian gifts.

All profits will help grassroots Scottish Malawian charity, STEKAskills build opportunities for people for marginalised young Malawians to work their way out of poverty in a country where less than 1% can go to college or university. Find out more at www.stekaskills.com

Mairi Campbell is a pioneering musician receiving critical attention for her remarkable singing, powerful concerts and unique solo music theatre productions that push the boundaries of Scottish traditional music. Her music has a rooted quality, encompassing wide-ranging interests from Scottish dance music to soundings and improvisations.

Davie Luhanga, aka Street Rat, is an award winning Malawian musician now living in Edinburgh. His music also spans genres, including reggae, funk and jazz. He sings in several Malawian languages, which include Chichewa, Tumbuka, Kyangonde from Karonga and Tonga from Nkhata-Bay. He is a founder and lead Singer of the award winning North Malawian based band, Body Mind and Soul and now plays afro funk with a variety of bands and musicians as well as solo performances.

Acclaimed traditional musicians, fiddler Sarah Hoy and piper Fin Moore are also on the bill. Fin plays Highland, Border and Scottish Smallpipes and is a successful pipemaker Sarah plays the fiddle and is known for her touch on slow airs and drive for dance tunes. Also appearing is Chef, an indie folk-rock musician, who sings beautiful tunes, with lyrics that will make you smile and give you all the feels. You'll hear about the night Jock's Lodge came down, being young and in the Espy, and what life might have been like without the Beatles! Chef is both a chef (the clue is in the name) and an absolute treat to see live.
