STEM in the Community Katikati - Coding/Robotics Workshop & Egg Drop Challenge
Event description
Kia ora,
We're happy to announce our STEM in the Community - Katikati event! It will take place on Friday 15th of October at The Digital Hub in Katikati.
Join us and participate in two free 1h workshops - Coding/Robotics Workshop by local company Cucumber and Egg Drop Challenge by STEM Wana Trust.
We're opening booking for a morning session at 10:00am. If it fills up and there is still demand, we will also open an afternoon session.
Please find below information about the workshops:
Cucumber - Coding/Robotics Workshop
The session will have 3 areas for kids to learn about coding and technology. There will be a group coding area where they will code in groups of 3 or 4 in a simple development language creating a Pong (or similar) game. Alongside the group coding each group will visit a screen hand drawing session and robot interaction session. In the drawing session the group will be able to interact with a drawing tool that utilises the camera to identify hand gestures and allow the kids to create their own drawing on screen using just hand movements. The robot interaction allows the kids to code instructions that will move the robot around the room.
STEM Wana Trust - Egg Drop Challenge
The challenge is to design and engineer a package/capsule to safely deploy a raw egg onto a set target.
Workshops are suitable for 8 to 12 years old tamariki.
All children MUST be accompanied and supervised by an adult during the entire session. ALL ATTENDEES MUST HAVE AN ENTRY TICKET.
Please note that this event can take place only if we are in alert level 1.
