Event description

Join us for an exciting event where graduate researchers take on the challenge of presenting their entire thesis in just three minutes — using only one static slide and no props!

The Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) is an academic research communication competition developed by the University of Queensland (UQ), Australia. It is a fast-paced, engaging showcase of cutting-edge research, designed to make complex ideas accessible to everyone.

Attendees will be able to support our researchers, partake in afternoon tea and see what three powerful minutes can do!
The winner from the UniSA STEM/FII heat will progress to the UniSA Grand Final and perhaps beyond.

Our 2025 STEM/FII participants are:

  • Jaco van Rooyen: Development of nanoparticles for fluorescence guided neurosurgery

  • Franke Agenbag: An Automated Method of Detecting, Characterising, and Responding to Radiation Events in Space

  • Kieran Sparkes: Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing Using Extracellular Vesicle Derived Fetal DNA

  • Tharindi Wijekoon: Comprehensive Analysis of Hydrological Losses in SA: Integrating Parametric and Non-parametric Approaches

  • Cheryl Chan: Compact, Lightweight Freeform Optics for Infrared Imaging from Space

  • Chamaka Sameera Karunanayake: Enhancing Rating Curve Accuracy: Making Streamflow Data More Reliable

  • Louise Lawrence: 3D Menus and Hand Interaction in AR and VR
