Event description

Every child should have the opportunity to learn computer science. It helps nurture problem-solving skills, logic and creativity. By starting early, children will have a foundation for success in any 21st-century career path.

The Hour of Code started as a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify "code", to show that anybody can learn the basics, and to broaden participation in the field of computer science. It has since become a worldwide effort to celebrate computer science, starting with 1-hour coding activities but expanding to all sorts of community efforts.

The goal of the Hour of Code is not to teach anybody to become an expert computer scientist in one hour. One hour is only enough to learn that computer science is fun and creative, and that it's accessible at all ages and for all students, regardless of background.

Come and join us at Tinkd Makerspace in Tauranga CBD for a hands-on hour of code activity during this October school holidays!

IS THIS A WORKSHOP?

No. This is a self-guided session for you and your child. Each child or pair with the help of the adult who accompanies them will work at a computer station using the hour of code website. Guidance and assistance will be provided by the Tinkd team.

DO I NEED TO STAY WITH MY CHILD?

An adult helper must stay and work with the child, each adult helper can supervise no more than 3 children.

Choose from the two session times:

10am - 11:30am

10:45am - 12:15pm

WHAT'S THE IDEAL AGE FOR THIS ACTIVITY?

This session is suitable for children aged 8 to 12 years old. It should be able to be completed within the 1.5 hour window, and may even be finished earlier than this.
