STEP NSW Branch invites you to a seminar with Deborah Robinson, Mediator, 7 Wentworth Selborne.

Topic: Mediations in Family Disputes:  Maximizing Client Satisfaction and Ownership of Outcomes

This seminar will discuss:

  • The concept of ‘self determination’ under the National Mediator Practice Standards.

  • Uncovering values and perspectives;  the hidden obstacles to settlement.

  • Structuring the discussions;  the use of collaboration and indicative offers.

  • Communication techniques.

  • Recent trends; enhanced mediation advocacy, expanded use of joint sessions, clients given a speaking role and access to third party advisors.

SPEAKER | Deborah Robinson, Mediator, 7 Wentworth Selborne

Deborah completed a Certificate of Advanced Mediation from the Australian Commercial Disputes Centre in 2000. She held various positions as a Registrar of the Supreme Court from 1999 to 2004 and conducted Court annexed mediations in the areas of family provision, medical negligence and possession.

In 2004 Deborah came to the Bar, combining advocacy and mediation work, but from 2016 has practiced exclusively as a mediator. She is accredited under the National Mediator Standards and from 2012-2018 contributed to mediator’s conferences and continuing professional development seminars as a member of the ADR Committee of the Bar Association.

Deborah’s practice areas include Wills and Estates, Equity and Trusts, Real Property, Commercial disputes, TPD & IP Insurance, Medical Negligence, Professional Negligence and Defamation. She is an advocate for modern mediation practices and standards, including client focused and collaborative negotiations. She is recognized in the 2026 edition of The Best Lawyers in Australia™ for the practice areas of Alternative Dispute Resolution, Defamation and Media Law, and Trusts and Estates.
