The Liner Notes Listening Session: Stevie Wonder - Songs in the Key of Life
Description
Fifty years of Songs in the Key of Life, played front to back at The Book Exchange. 🎶☕📚
Inspired by Stevie Wonder's 50th anniversary tour, we're settling in among the shelves with good coffee, light bites and one of the greatest album ever made.
Few artists have soundtracked as many lives as Stevie Wonder. From his early Motown years through a run of classics that reshaped soul, funk, and pop, he has given us a body of work that feels like it belongs to every generation.
Songs in the Key of Life was released in 1976 as a double album with a bonus EP. It holds "Sir Duke", "I Wish", "Isn't She Lovely", "As" and "Love's In Need of Love Today" and effortlessly moves through joy, grief, faith, protest, and tenderness without losing its warmth.
It debuted at number one, won the Grammy for Album of the Year, and was later preserved in the Library of Congress' National Recording Registry. Half a century on, it's still the album people reach for to feel something. Join us in a talanoa about one of Stevie’s greatest works.
