Event description

Join sound designer and composer, Sam Porter, in this introductory Spark Session on Sound Design!

A sound designer is responsible for creating and sourcing the sound elements in a project. A sound designer may also work as musical director. Some of their tasks include:

  • Sourcing or creating both diegetic (heard within the world of the story eg. A radio playing, birds chirping) and non-diegetic (external to the world of the story, eg. Soundtrack) sounds as needed
  • Working with the director, musical director, and other creatives to ensure director’s vision is achieved with sound elements
  • Programming the sound design for technical operation in shows

In this 2-hour Spark Session, you’ll learn about the process of creating a sound design, the key programs and methods to designing sounds, and the important role that sound plays in world-building and setting a tone for a show.
