Event description

Join acclaimed director and stage manager, Cassandra Fumi, in this introductory Spark Session on Stage Management!

Stage Managers (SMs) are an integral part of the production team and have many varied responsibilities on and off the stage, including:

  • being the director’s right-hand person
  • creating and managing a rehearsal schedule
  • compiling a prompt copy (aka. the show bible)
  • ensuring the safety of cast and crew.

In this 2-hour Spark Session, you’ll learn about the role of Stage Management and how you can be a great SM, through practical activities and insightful discussions.

About Cassandra

Cassandra Fumi is a theatre maker and artist who makes interdisciplinary performance works.

She has a community-engaged practice and works with non-performers, community groups, and young people to create new works. Her practice is socially engaged and holds at its heart a championing of theatre’s unique ability to allow for the creation of community, expression, and a deep seeing and sharing.

Inspired by fairytales, new writing, memes, and experiences she creates a multi-sensory context that encompasses both the spectator and performers as creators and storytellers. This blurred performer/spectator boundary, together with the specificity of the created world, builds a space of confrontation where spectatorship and performance open up social behaviors to interrogation.

She is deeply curious and driven by artistic collaboration, heightened theatrical worlds, and challenging theatrical form and its possibilities.

Cassandra also works as an artistic associate, community liaison, and stage manager with regular collaborators Samara Hersch, Lara Thoms, THE RABBLE, APHIDS, and Susie Dee.
