Event description

The National Employment Services Association is hosting their annual conference that is bringing together people from across the employment services industry that are responsible for stopping millions of welfare payments every year.

The Minister for Employment, Amanda Rishworth and Minister for Social Services, Tanya Plibersek, will be giving keynote speeches along with the Secretary from the Department of Social Services.

This event comes at a time when the Department of Employment has admitted that it has unlawfully cancelled over 1,000 payments of people on Centrelink. It has also stopped payment cancellations because it does not know it what it is doing is lawful.

Still, employment providers who make billions a year from government are still able to suspend people's payments arbitrarily and the government is failing to act to prevent people being made homeless during a cost of living crisis.

The Australian Unemployed Workers' Union and the Antipoverty Centre are calling on the government to act immediately and stop payment suspensions and end this poverty machine that creates millionaires while people live in poverty.

We'll be handing out flyers as the event commences and giving speeches before wrapping up at 10:30am, so come down early for a coffee, chat and to hand out flyers to those who are attending the event.
