Event description

Our event theme is Stories That Shaped Us with an opportunity for migrants and former-refugees to be the main storytellers. This event is a chance to share and celebrate them together.

Story-Crafting Workshop (for migrants and former-refugees only)
🕔 Arrive by 5:45pm | Workshop runs 6:00–6:45pm

In this welcoming workshop, you’ll join others to reflect on and craft stories from your own life. No acting is involved, and no theatre experience is needed. Limited English is fine. We will help you craft the stories that shaped how you see the world, such as what has defined you, what has given you strength, what touched your heart, what has been your greatest loss...

Performance (open to all)
🕖 7:00–8:30pm

After the workshop, our Playback Theatre actors will perform for you. Audience members are invited to tell us stories from their lives, which will then be brought to life on stage through music, movement, and drama. Performances don’t use a lot of words, so they can be enjoyed even with limited English. You can choose to share—or simply watch and enjoy.

Practical details:

  • Light refreshments provided

  • Free workshop | Performance tickets sliding scale (choose what you can pay)

  • Venue: Victory Community Centre, Nelson

This event is a welcoming space for migrants, former-refugees, friends, and families to connect, reflect, and celebrate the stories that shape who we are.
