Event description

If you're working with Stories in your organisation, you know the feeling. Someone shares something deeply personal - their struggle, their triumph, their truth. And you feel the weight of that trust. You understand that how their Story gets told matters. A lot.

But then you watch as these stories can become treated as just content. Marketing material. Data points. And you think: "There has to be a better way."

You're right. There is.

The Reality We've Observed

After years of working in ethical storytelling, we've noticed a pattern. Organisations often struggle to see the value of ethical storytelling practices. They question the "extra steps."

But the people actually holding the stories? The ones collecting them, caring for them, sharing them? You get it immediately. You understand that every story deserves respect, consent, and careful handling.

This workshop will support organisations and Story Caretakers to:

  • co-design safer spaces to create and tell stories with respect, sensitivity, and appreciation of people’s lived experiences;

  • rethink how to tell stories more powerfully by placing the community at the centre;

  • develop processes and strategies to better reach audiences, benefiting the community.

Facilitators from Our Race Community will take participants through the five principles of Transformational Ethical Story Telling (T.E.S.T.) framework. This introductory workshop will allow participants to understand how each principle can be applied and to determine which principles and actions need to be prioritised for each organisation’s Story Telling and community engagement processes. Key questions will be posed to allow participants to navigate the unique challenges faced by their organisation when engaging with Story Holders.

Dates/Times:

Wednesday 12th November 3.00pm - 5:00 pm (AEST)

All ticket sales and donations will go towards Story Holder workshops and resource development so we can continue to follow our key objective to provide free, accessible resources to empower Story Holders across Australia and beyond.
