Storytellers Gathering 2027

In our third year of gathering to celebrate the oral tradition, you are invited to join us for a weekend of shared workshops, meals, skills exchange, celebration and, of course, stories! So many stories!

We start with a shared meal on Friday night, before listening to a story by a special guest. Then we open the circle for free-flowing stories. On Saturday, we start with yoga stories with Sally, then move into our four workshops for the day. In the evening, we dive deep into story medicine.
On Sunday, after yoga and a workshop, we head to the forest where the public is invited to join us while we share stories with the community.
The intention remains to gather storytellers from across WA to help build our connections as a community, build collaboration opportunities, and create a space for storytellers to connect in a safe and welcoming event where all types of oral tellers are valued - historical, personal, folk, mythological, applied storytellers, ritual, traditional - all are welcome here.
This will remain a self-catered event. We understand that many people have dietary restrictions, but there's nothing better than sharing a communal meal. If we all bring a meal to share with others we can share from 6.30pm. As for previous years, there will probably be enough leftovers for Saturday night, however, food is your responsibility.
We hope that on this weekend of stories, you will:

+ practice telling stories
+ feel a sense of belonging in the community
+ celebrate this art form that we all love
+ have fun!
If there's someone you are happy to room share with, please let us know when you book. Please get in early to avoid disappointment if you prefer a single room. There are limited tickets available for the venue, and they don't permit camping/vehicles. Ticket price includes accommodation, workshops, and events, and attendance at the Sunday "festival".
We are proud to let you know it is an accessible venue, as we didn't want anyone to miss out due to mobility/access issues. If you have health issues that require specifics, such as proximity to a toilet, etc, please get in touch so we can help make it happen.

p.p.s. The venue upped the price, so unfortunately, so have we. We are trying to keep it as affordable as possible for everyone. If you need to pay in installments, you can pay Fri night, Sat and Sunday separately and send an email so we know what sort of room you want.
FAQs
- Do I need to have told a story before to come?
No. Part of this event is encouraging connection between beginners and thos who are more experienced. There is no need to tell a story unless you want to!
- Is this for writers/poets too?
Oral storytelling has a lot of skills/crossover from other arts spaces: stand up comedy, acting, writing, poetry, theatre, public speaking, music, improvisation, puppetry and so many more. While our focus is on the oral tradition, whatever your area, there will be something for you to learn here that you can apply to your own arts practice.
- I don't know anybody coming, is that okay?
That's okay, we hope that you will feel welcomed when you come. But if you're worried, you can bring a friend. We want you to feel safe, seen, heard and valued. There have been new people every year and they always leave with a smile!
