Oral Storytelling at Moore and Moore Cafe

Welcome to What Happened At The Edge, as we continue the journey, bringing the art of traditional oral storytelling to a contemporary audience.

In residency this month Will Wilson, breathes life into an old old Siberian folktale of The Mares Tail Plant Woman.

When a story begins with the longing of an old woman we find ourselves in deep initiatory territory.

From this longing arrives a young woman whose speech can reconnect culture to the wild, but only when she has found her true voice. . . by no means a small task.

A story that asks us to consider language and poetic speech as the counterweight to our disconnection from the natural world. A worthy consideration for us all.

Its a ripper of a tale and one of Will’s favourite to tell, (please don’t tell the other stories) you can expect a mix of the silly and sincere, the sacred and profane and windy paths leading to dead end or endless opportunities.

About the Storyteller:

Will Wilson

Lives in the tension and paradox that myths so eloquently hold between: domestic and wild / land and sea / village and adventure / sacred and profane / silly and sincere.

He has traveled and lived the stories he tells, from the wilds of Devon to the edges of Scotland, with study in MA Poetics of Imagination gives his storytelling a grounding that takes you beyond the encounter

The evening begin in the beautiful Moore and Moore Cafe space where the cafe is open for dinner, cakes and drinks. The the performance space opens and your invited into receive a story told in the oral tradition, no notes no script no show just the rawness of the poetic language of the storytellers and the vivacity of your imagination.

Food and Drinks: The wonderful Moore and Moore Cafe is opening its doors to us for these events, their team will be on hand to serve drinks from their small bar, coffee and cakes (a wonderful interval treat), and dinner will be available to pre order for before the performance or during the interval. Dinner options will be announced closer to the event for pre booking.

Event Schedule: Thursday 29th October 2026

Doors: 18:00 - arrive and settle in with a drink and something to eat

Performance starts: 19:00 - Performance area opens, enter in silence

Interval: 19:45 - Take a breather and order a drink or cafe made cake

Performance continues: 20:10 - Regather and listen to the second part

Ending: 21:00 - Ending after a short discussion Q&A with Storytellers
