Strategic Career Positioning: CV, LinkedIn and Interview Workshop
Description
Bring your CV, LinkedIn profile and one career goal.
Leave with clearer professional positioning, practical improvements to your career materials, stronger interview examples and a focused 90-day progression plan.
This four-hour working session is for professionals applying for new roles, preparing for promotion, considering a career move or wanting to become better recognised for what they can contribute.
Saturday, 3 April 2027
10.00 am–2.00 pm
Auckland Business Chamber
Level 9, 90 Symonds Street, Grafton, Auckland
Limited to 30 participants
Your experience may be stronger than the way it's currently presented
Your CV can be accurate and still undersell you.
Your LinkedIn profile can contain all the right information without giving employers a clear sense of what you can do, the results you have achieved or where you want to go next.
You can have years of relevant experience and still struggle to find the right language in an interview, a meeting or a conversation about promotion.
Strategic career positioning connects these parts of your professional life. It helps people understand your experience, recognise the evidence behind your capabilities and see where you could contribute next.
This workshop will help you strengthen how you present yourself on paper, online, in interviews and in the workplace.
What previous participants said
In April 2026, Emmagness delivered her first Auckland career workshop. Among the 11 participants who completed the evaluation, this is what they said:
“The content is thought-provoking and offers real, practical insights into how to manoeuvre in the workplace.”
“It was interactive, inclusive and consistently engaging.”
“It offers practical steps to put into action.”
“It was an engaging session based on lived experience.”
“It’s life-changing if you do your part and follow through with the recommendations.”
Participants said the most valuable areas included understanding how hiring decisions are made, improving their CVs, strengthening their LinkedIn direction, building interview confidence and learning how to communicate their value.
Several asked for more time to practise and apply the material. This expanded four-hour workshop has been designed in response.
Who this workshop is for
This workshop is for professionals who want to take a more intentional approach to how they are understood, considered and remembered throughout their careers.
It's for you if you:
Know that your CV does not reflect the scope or value of your experience.
Want your LinkedIn profile to communicate more than your current job title.
Are applying for roles and need to present a clearer, more relevant case for your candidacy.
Want to answer interview questions with greater structure, confidence and evidence.
Feel overlooked despite your skills, experience or qualifications.
Are preparing for promotion, leadership or greater responsibility.
Want to communicate your contribution more effectively in meetings and career conversations.
Need to build stronger professional relationships without feeling transactional.
Are new to New Zealand and want to understand how to present your experience within the local employment market.
Want to become better known for what you can contribute.
Why this is different from generic career advice
You can find CV templates, LinkedIn tips and lists of interview questions online. The difficulty is knowing how to apply that advice to your experience, career direction and the opportunities you want.
This workshop doesn't give every participant the same formula.
You will work with your own CV, LinkedIn profile, achievements and career goal. The focus is not simply on making your documents look better. It's on creating alignment between what you have done, how you communicate it and what you want to be considered for next.
You will leave with changes you can make, language you can use and a plan you can continue applying after the workshop.
What you will work through
1. Position your experience for the opportunities you want
You will clarify what you want next and strengthen the story you communicate about your experience, achievements and direction.
We will cover:
How to develop a clear professional positioning statement.
How to connect your experience to the roles and opportunities you want next.
The difference between listing responsibilities and demonstrating contribution.
How to identify and communicate credible achievements.
How to create a stronger career narrative across different roles or sectors.
How to avoid generic language that could describe anyone in your field.
2. Strengthen your CV and LinkedIn profile
You will examine how employers and decision-makers encounter your professional story before speaking with you.
We will cover:
What your CV needs to communicate quickly.
How to prioritise relevant experience rather than documenting everything you have done.
How to strengthen your LinkedIn headline, About section and experience.
How your CV and LinkedIn profile should support one another.
How to make your skills, strengths and achievements easier to recognise.
Practical improvements you can begin making during the workshop.
3. Communicate your value in interviews
You will develop stronger language and evidence for speaking about your experience under pressure.
We will cover:
How to select relevant examples for interview questions.
How to structure answers without sounding rehearsed.
How to connect your experience to the needs of the role.
How to speak about achievements without minimising them or feeling as though you are bragging.
How to demonstrate capability, judgement and readiness for greater responsibility.
How to build a bank of examples before your next interview.
4. Position yourself for progression after securing the role
Career positioning continues after the interview. It influences how you contribute, build trust, develop relationships and become considered for future opportunities.
We will cover:
How to contribute with greater confidence in meetings and workplace conversations.
How to communicate progress without producing a list of completed tasks.
How to build relationship capital with managers, peers and decision-makers.
What sponsorship is, how it differs from mentorship and why it can influence progression.
How to make your contribution visible without feeling as though you are constantly promoting yourself.
How to prepare for promotion, leadership and future opportunities.
A practical example
A CV statement can be accurate without showing the level or value of someone’s contribution.
Before
Responsible for managing stakeholder relationships and preparing monthly reports.
After
Coordinated monthly reporting across five teams, translating operational information into clear recommendations for senior decision-makers.
The second version gives the reader more evidence. It shows scope, judgement, communication and the audience influenced by the work.
During the workshop, you will begin identifying the evidence that can strengthen how you describe your own experience.
