Strengthening Professional Supervision - Online - November 2026
Description
You're invited to join us for the online launch of the Strengthening Supervision Discussion Paper.
Professional supervision plays an important role in supporting a capable, connected and sustainable workforce. Across the domestic and family violence, sexual violence, and women's health and wellbeing sectors, supervision can help us navigate complexity, strengthen ethical and culturally responsive practice, and support wellbeing.
Developed by Associate Professor Natasha Cortis and Dr Cathy Thomson from UNSW, the discussion paper brings together current evidence and insights on professional supervision, exploring what we know, what is working, and where further learning and research is needed.
The paper highlights:
The role of supervision in supporting wellbeing, confidence, capability and reflective practice.
The importance of organisational support, supervisor capability, resourcing and protected time.
The value of different supervision approaches, including individual, group, external, trauma-informed and cultural supervision.
The conditions needed for high-quality, effective supervision.
The contribution supervision can make to workforce capability, retention and sustainability.
The paper also poses a series of questions to help spark conversation about professional supervision in our sector.
We warmly invite everyone in the domestic and family violence, women’s health and wellbeing sector as well as external supervisors, policy makers and government representatives to join the conversation.
At this interactive online launch, you will have the opportunity to:
Hear directly from the researchers about the key findings and messages.
Connect with colleagues from across the sector and share perspectives and experiences.
Engage in discussion about what the findings mean for our workforce.
Join us as we explore how professional supervision can support a stronger, more sustainable workforce and help shape future workforce development offerings by WorkUP.
