Description

This foundational workshop introduces participants to the Strengths Approach as a way of thinking, working and being in human services. Grounded in the work of Wayne McCashen and the broader strengths-based movement in Australia, it invites participants—regardless of role or experience—to explore what it means to lead with curiosity about what people can do, rather than focusing on deficits or problems.

The workshop balances theory with practice and creates space for participants to begin applying strengths-based thinking to their own work from day one. It’s designed to model the very approach it teaches—facilitated with warmth, curiosity and genuine regard for each participant.

 Learning Outcomes

  • Understand the fundamentals of the Strengths Approach is and how it differs from deficit-based models.

  • Discover the core values and principles that underpin strengths-based practice.

  • Reflect on how your current practice aligns with, or diverges from, a strengths approach.

  • Articulate the difference between 'power-over' and 'power-with' in professional relationships.

  • Leave with one concrete, personal action point for your role.

Who it’s for:

Practitioners, educators, support workers, managers and anyone seeking to embed a more empowering,
person-centred approach in their practice.

Drawing on strengths-based approaches used in a wide range of evidence-based programs, the workshop offers practical tools and strategies that participants can apply in any practice.
