Stringybark Creek Guided Discovery Walk
Event description
Grade: Easy Distance: 1.5 km one way.
Stringybark Creek flows through Lane Cove North to the Lane Cove River. Commencing in Stringybark Creek Reserve, guided by our local expert, you will learn about: the history of this pocket of Lane Cove; Harry Howard who, in his role as Council’s Landscape Architect, played a key role in the greening of Lane Cove; the precious remnant ecologically endangered forest that was added to the reserve in 2024; the sandstone quarry where stone was extracted to build up Centennial Avenue, bridging the creek; the constantly changing native plant communities beside Stringybark Creek through Batten Reserve to Mindarie Park. You will also learn about the impacts of stormwater and weeds and how they are being managed by Council and volunteers.
The walk will end at Mindarie Park where there are picnic tables, toilets and a kiosk.
