Strong Women for Healthy Country Forum 2026
Description
Strong Women for Healthy Country Forum 2026
"Honouring the Beginning. Celebrating the Journey. Shaping the Future"
The Strong Women for Healthy Country Network Aboriginal Corporation (SWHCN AC) is proud to announce its 6th Annual Forum.
In 2019, Rembarrnga, Dalabon, and Mayili Elders invited women caring for Country from across the Northern Territory to meet at Bawurrbarnda in Central Arnhem Land. In 2024, we formed our own Strong Women for Healthy Country Network Aboriginal Corporation. The 2026 forum will honour that milestone and celebrate the strength, leadership, and cultural knowledge that continue to guide the network today.
The network is dedicated to empowering Aboriginal women and with the support of Mimal Land Management Aboriginal Corporation, hundreds of women caring for Country have been gathering for our forums since 2019 to share knowledge, strengthen connections, support one another, and celebrate.
This year's forum marks an important milestone in the network's journey and willbe held as a 3-day camping event at Bawurrbarnda (Emu Springs) in Central Arnhem Land - the birthplace of the Network.
Please be advised this video contains photos of someone who is no longer with us. She was our dear friend, colleague, and family. We have permission from her family to include these photos and honour her memory.
The 3-day on Country camping forum will feature on-Country cultural activities, women's stories and knowledge sharing, workshops focused on healing, safety and health for women working on Country and leadership development, all meals and much more. The forum creates space for women to connect with organisations, services and support networks that contribute to the wellbeing, empowerment and ongoing support of Indigenous women caring for Country.
Over three days, Elders, women rangers, community workers and supporters will communicate, collaborate, and advocate, building on our strategic priorities and shared vision:
"We are strong Indigenous women of the Northern Territory. We stand united as one strong voice. We commit to a network that gives equal power to the rights of all our women. Strong Women means Healthy Country."
There will also be dedicated presentations by members, organisations, and ranger groups to showcase the work being done across the Northern Territory.
The forum will conclude with an artwork launch, announcement of the photo competition winner and bunggal, celebrating and recognising what it means to be a Strong Woman for Healthy Country.
