Event description

STRUCTURE & LIGHTNESS

Bones & breath, frame & flow, stability vs suspension, rooted weight vs buoyant lift…

We meet these polarities often in Contact Improvisation. The interplay between structure and lightness shapes how we move, support, and respond - yet beyond the technical layer, it also shapes how we feel and how we connect in the dance.

In this workshop, we will bring the water element into our exploration inviting fluidity, adaptability, and continuous motion to meet the clarity and stability of the skeletal structure. How can we let movement ripple through us? How can the solidity of bone meeting the ground become the shore from which waves of motion rise and return?

We’ll work with exercises that tune our skeletal support, fluid body, and lightness of air, moving to adapt to ever-changing situations. We will develop our improvisation and play with scores, clarify pathways, find alignment of weight and gravity, and explore how to generate and receive lift with less effort, allowing water-like qualities to soften transitions, carry momentum, and transform falling into flying.

Previous experience in CI is welcome but not essential. Having attended at least one class or jam before is recommended.
