Studio Sessions - Oil Painting for Intermediate Artists
Event description
Introducing Studio Sessions!
Studio sessions are an opportunity to be part of smaller, intimate classes and are held in my Jervis Bay Studio.
Oil Painting for Intermediate Artists is a deep dive into oil painting beyond the basics and doesn't follow a particular structure but rather, is guided by the needs of the participants.
Each artist is encouraged to bring along a painting they have been working on or a canvas ready to create new work. They may also bring along other work (finished or unfinished) which they would like advice or guidance on.
Aspects of painting that will be covered include (but not limited to) glazing, scumbling, brushwork, composition, how to work without solvents, mediums (pros and cons of using mediums you may not have considered) as well as materials and what it means to ensure our work is archival.
Demos will be provided where needed and I will use some of my own finished and finished work for the purpose of demonstration and discussion.
Throughout the day artists will work on their paintings and will have a choice of working from a floor or desk easel. I will be working closely with each artist to identify problem areas as well as improve skills and knowledge.
At the end of the day the group will come together for a critique session where each artist can share their thoughts on their painting, the direction their work is heading, discuss problem areas and ask questions. The group as a whole will be invited to join in the discussion of each others work.
For those who may never have experienced a critique session, please let me assure you they offer the most amazing and insightful opportunity to see your work with fresh eyes, and often lead to giant leaps forward in your work. We all learn from each other and they are always respectful.
