Event description

Drought resilience and managing soil constraints is on the mind of every farmer. Soil constraints can prevent a crop from utilizing available water in the soil efficiently and reduce yield potential.

Federally and industry funded projects aim to manage soil constraints and enhance drought resilience through different means, one of which is sub-surface application of soil ameliorants and fertilisers. As two major projects in our region come to a close, it is time to take stock, see what results and learnings the projects delivered, and what the key take home messages are for farmers.

The event will cover:

✔ Soil constraints – causes, identification and remedies (Dr Y Dang, UQ)

✔ One soil constraint rarely comes on its own (C Leckie, USQ)

✔ When and where can deep placement of P fertilizer be a solution (Dr C Guppy, UNE)

✔ What are the options for organic farmers to overcome soil constraints (J Pettersson, AO)

✔ What did we learn from twenty on-farm trials in SEQ and CQ? (Dr B Wehr, UQ)

✔ Long-term strategies for managing sodic sub-soils in northern NSW / southern QLD (Dr R Flavel, UNE)

✔ Providing commercial sub-surface application services – experience from Victoria
    (S Falkiner, TerraNova AG)
