Event description

Saturday September 28th, Sub Rosa Sessions will feature a rare acoustic performance by goodkids. An acoustic full band set of their debut album, Who We Used To Be, will be followed up with a duo set of new songs. Every goodkids performance is a unique and special experience.

Sub Rosa, literally means "Under The Rose" and the rose historically used to symbolize secrecy, is a fitting name for these semi-private sessions. Sub Rosa Sessions uphold a truly unique, high-end listening experience since it's beginnings in 2012, when it was founded and hosted by singer-songwriter Amanda Rogers for 4 years at Subcat Studios. The revival of the monthly series now commences at a new creative space, Pink Rock Culture Co-op, in Downtown Syracuse. This listening room concert is an immersive experience for the attendees and performers to connect and share in the live concert together - hearing music the way the artist intended.

The band goodkids is the collaboration between vocalist and drummer Giovanni Giardina and lyricist and keyboardist Nick Mazzeo. Their music is mostly conceived in bursts of spontaneity in late hours of a night. At the heart of it can be heavy organ tones, and vocals from behind the drums, and sparse Wurlitzer, and bass grooves that drive each song forward as much as they set them in place.

Their album Who We Used to Be is a full expression of their signature vocals, that sit between smoky and soulful, that tell a story in the style of a lyrical memoir, or epic poem. With both songwriters originally from Upstate New York, this slate of songs inevitably draws characteristics of the place where they are from. A place that can be overwhelmed by greens but then dominated by greys. That is never too dark but never that light. With many hills, and waters, but much rust. The songs were written and recorded in that environment over the course of several years and many shows and contributions from some of the area's most exceptional musicians and audio engineers.
