Event description
SUICIDE AND RAINBOWSA Professional Development event offered by Celebrants Aotearoa - Taranaki Branch
|
Join us for a ground-breaking and transformative professional development event – designed exclusively for celebrants and funeral directors - being held in the beautiful region of Taranaki. This event is open to all celebrants – members and non-members of 'Celebrants Aotearoa'! This day is about empowering ourselves to understand the issues that affect us deeply, suicide and the need for inclusivity.
Taranaki has the highest rate of death by suicide in the country and we are tackling this subject to support both celebrants and funeral directors who work with families affected by suicide loss. We welcome the esteemed team, from Building Wellness Taranaki, who will be leading us through a compassionate and sensitive exploration of this subject. We will gain insights into their work and an understanding of how suicide impacts our profession. We will learn some of the steps we can take to effectively deal with this challenging aspect of our work.
Special guest, Russell Burnard, the Registrar-General of Births, Deaths, and Marriages, will be joining us for the day. He will provide a much-anticipated update from BDM, shedding light on the latest developments in his field.
The dynamic president of CANZ, Rachel Clarke, will describe the professional development framework (known as VCANZ) which enables members to reflect on their learnings from practice and ongoing professional development. This interactive session will explore how reflective practice can enhance our professional skillset and development as a celebrant.
Ross Hughson, CEO of ‘My Trove,’ will talk to this innovative service, which provides a seamless platform which offers the ability to notify multiple organizations of a death. Families can utilise this service following the death of a loved one at a difficult time.
Our keynote speaker is Andi Harness. Andi will deliver an inspiring workshop titled "Rainbow inclusivity 101 – Affirming our rainbow clients." This captivating session will dive deep into understanding and supporting the Rainbow community with empathy and compassion. Leave this workshop with newfound knowledge and the tools to create an inclusive environment for all.
The day will culminate in an engaging Q&A session with a panel of experienced Funeral Directors. This is your chance to ask those burning questions, exchange insights, and learn from one another's experiences.
After a day of enlightenment and growth, we invite you to unwind and network at Area 41 in New Plymouth. Relish the opportunity to socialize, connect with peers, and forge valuable relationships while enjoying great food and drinks – (note that food and drink are at your cost)
