Join us for this robust, evidence-based course that focuses on educating people about suicide, challenging attitudes, and teaching suicide intervention skills.
Delivered by Wesley Mission, these FREE courses will provide participants with increased confidence in their ability to identify people who may be at risk of suicide, communicate appropriately with a suicidal person, ask a person if they are considering suicide and conduct a suicide intervention.
Topics covered include:
• Occurrence and demographics of suicide in Australia.
• Identifying risk and protective factors for suicide prevention.
• Being aware of the requirements for classifying a death as a suicide.
• Differences between risk factors and warning signs.
• Learning how to implement the SALT suicide intervention strategy.
• National and local suicide prevention resources.
This training course is accredited with Quality Innovation Performance Limited (QIP), and assessed against the Suicide Prevention Australia Standards for Quality Improvement.

- Informed by the latest research in suicide prevention, Wesley LifeForce has developed a quality suite of suicide prevention training. Wesley LifeForce’s suicide prevention training equips participants with the knowledge and skills to increase awareness of suicide in Australia, identify the signs that someone may be at risk of suicide and appropriate action to take. Effective interventions can make a real difference and save lives. This training course aims to upskill individuals from all walks of life, as well as organisational groups. All Wesley LifeForce facilitators are accredited trainers and have completed suicide intervention training. Below you will find an outline of our workshops.

- understand risk and protective factors
- how to identify the warning signs that someone may be at risk of suicide
- how to ask directly about suicide intent
- understand what local and national support and resources are available to support a person at risk
- Ensuring participant safety
- Wesley LifeForce’s workshop material is specifically designed keeping participant’s safety in mind. The course material is vetted by MindFrame – an Australian Government body which provides expert advice to the suicide prevention sector on responsible reporting/portrayal of the issue of suicide.
