Event description

Suminagashi, which means "floating ink," originated in Japan around the 12th century. The deceptively simple artform involves laying ink on a water bath, gently blowing on it, and then capturing it on paper or fabric.

We'll explore the basic tools and materials and then play around with the technique on paper to see how subtle changes alter our results. The process is meditative, so this is a wonderful way to unwind! The papers make lovely additions to cards and collages, as well as frames for pictures and wrapping paper. All materials are included.

Suminagashi is generally not a messy process, but accidents do happen, and the ink is permanent. Wear an apron or dress accordingly!

This class is open to participants ages 13+. ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST HAVE A WAIVER ON FILE. We will have hard copies available on site. Please also refer to our parking and accessibility information.
