MTASA 2026 Summer Conference Inspired Repertoire: Inspiring Teaching
Description
We are delighted to warmly welcome you to the MTASA Summer Conference 2026, a day dedicated to exploring fresh, engaging repertoire and practical teaching approaches for the studio and classroom. This year’s theme, Inspired Repertoire: Inspiring Teaching, reflects the value of discovering new musical materials that can spark ideas, broaden our resources, and support the day-to-day realities of music teaching.
Conference Highlights:
This year’s program begins with a strong spotlight on the newly released AMEB Piano Series 19, led by keynote presenter Angela Turner (QLD), Australian pianist, lecturer, and Principal Consultant for the Series 19 grade books. Across three sessions, Angela will guide teachers through the development of the series, demonstrate repertoire across all grades, and work directly with students in a masterclass showcasing interpretive and pedagogical approaches.
Complementing this, Joanne Burrows (NSW), Head of Piano and Music Craft at the Riverina Conservatorium of Music, will present two practical sessions offering repertoire-based strategies for sight-reading, musicianship, and ensemble playing, across instruments, providing teachers with adaptable materials they can take straight back into their studios.
We are also thrilled to announce the traditional George Pearce Oration, will be delivered by Dr Debra Andreacchio PhD — a highlight of the conference not to be missed.
Other Presenters and Special Features:
Other presenters in break-out sessions include Rodney Smith OAM, Mark Matthews (NSW), Fiona McArdle (voice), Sam Penny (strings, woodwind), and Elaine Feng, each offering a variety of practical ideas, repertoire, and teaching strategies. We'll also hear from SACE Education Consultant Alison Thompson, who will share insights into the proposed changes to the Stage 2 Music Curriculum and lead a forum discussion. Attendees will enjoy a concert featuring our recent Competition Day winners, multiple trade stalls, including Wirripang Publishing, plus so much more to explore throughout the day!
