Summer Fun(draiser): ‘Past and Present’ walking tour with Bates Smart

Join Bates Smart’s studio director, Johan Hermijanto as he leads a walking tour along the east end of Melbourne, taking guests along Spring Street and then down Collins Street. As one of Australia’s oldest firms, visitors will hear about projects from the firms rich history, including St Michael’s Church originally constructed in the 1860’s to the more recent, award-winning residential towers at 17 and 35 Spring Street and our projects in between.

Johan Hermijanto is an architect, designer, and Studio Director at Bates Smart, where he curates the Bates Smart Gallery, known for its Melbourne Design Week exhibitions. A long-time resident of Melbourne's East End, Johan's familiarity with its streets enriches his perspective. He has led numerous Open House tours of Bates Smart's iconic 1958 Orica House and is deeply passionate about culture, design, and the built environment.

• This tour will conclude at St Michael’s Uniting Church, 120 Collins Street, Melbourne.
• This walking tour requires low to moderate activity covering approximately 2km with some areas of incline and uneven ground.
• This tour is an all weather event. Please come prepared for the weather and wearing comfortable shoes.
