Summer House Concert
Event description
Local Uralla-based singer-songwriter Jhana Allan is joined by two of her dear NT-based friends, Emmy Ryan (Alice Springs), and Alice Cotton (Darwin) off the back of their performances at Tamworth Country Music Festival.
Alice Cotton
Hailing from Darwin, Alice Cotton's music defies categorisation, blending indie-folk with alt-country with occasional touches of lush string instrumentation. With infectious songs that "hit you with the depth and breadth of her storytelling" (triple j), Cotton is captivating audiences across the country’s regional music scene. Her sound has drawn comparisons to Australian legends like Paul Kelly and Stella Donnelly, as well as a growing reputation for her playful on-stage banter, stunning vocals, and introspective songwriting that explores everything from family pets to queer love and an insatiable hunger for food.
Fresh off a double finalist nomination in the 2024 NT Music Awards and the release of her self-titled debut EP, Alice Cotton is solidifying her place as one of Australia's exciting new voices. The EP, produced by award-winning Nick Huggins (Jen Cloher, Alice Skye), features a stellar lineup including Holly Thomas (Quivers, HUSKY) and Tim Baker (Baby Velvet, Freya Josephine Hollick). Her genre-crossing approach appeals to lovers of indie, folk, and rock, while her storytelling roots keep listeners coming back for more.
Emmy Ryan
The finest folk music explores the personal and the political and Mparntwe Alice Springs-based songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Emmy Ryan excels at exploring and detailing the complex terrain of both of those aspects of the genre.
Born and raised on Bundjalung and Wiradjuri Country in regional NSW, of Irish and Scottish heritage, Emmy is now based on Arrernte Country in the NT. In September 2024 Emmy released her debut EP I Ain’t So Blue, a consummate collection of songs shaped by the skies, seas, cities, mountains, plains, and deserts of her homes.
The EP has received acclaim and airplay from community and commercial radio around the country. It was the feature album on 8CCC Radio in Alice Springs and Tennant Creek in its release week, and has been featured on ABC Radio. Emmy has performed at Dorrigo Folk & Bluegrass Festival, Desert Song Festival, St Albans Folk Festival, the Australian Celtic Festival, and the Top Half Folk Festival.
