Oi Musica presents... The Sunday Get Down
Event description
The Sunday Get-Down is back, with a tea-time double header for those who like their music brassy!
Bringing people together through music is what Oi Musica is all about, and November's Sunday Get Down features two acts that do just that:
First up, infectious rhythms and interlocking melodies from Scotland's only Cuban Big Band! Directed by Manchester-based Christian Weaver, with support from Oi Musica musicians, this project was born from a series of workshops that invite singers & horn players of all levels to play alongside a killer percussion section, play fresh arrangements of classic repertoire and build appreciation for Cuban music and its Afrocuban roots. The music of Beny Moré and Pello El Afrokán played live? Just the tonic for a dark November evening.
Next up, Shunpike Social Club takes over, directed by percussionist Sam Ward-hardy and Oi Musica Creative Director Marcus Britton. A joyous collective of brass, reeds, rhythm & bass - Shunpike brings the street party vibes every time. Brazilian rhythms, South African tunes, songs from new Orleans and more - what better way to wrap up your weekend / head into Monday with a spring in your step.
Turn up, Get down and show your support for Oi Musica's powerful community-building through music.
Over 14s welcome (ages 14-18 must be accompanied by an adult).
See you there!
