Sunday Lunch and a Film: Bar Gabi and Wicker at the Sun
Description
Anderson Street has a new neighbour, and it's the one I've been waiting for.
Bar Gabi is the new bar and kitchen from Julian Hills and Georgia Roberts, the pair behind Navi, Yarraville's hatted local. Julian calls it Navi's younger, louder sister. There isn't an oven in the place. Everything is cooked over charcoal, tea tree, mallee root and red gum, and the cocktails get the smoke and native treatment too. It's named for bar manager Miriam's grandmother Gabi, and for Gabija, the Lithuanian spirit who watches over the fire.
We have the whole mezzanine to ourselves. We'll start with a spritz on arrival, then settle in for a long Sunday lunch, a sharing menu the Gabi kitchen will choose to show us what they do best. All dietaries catered for. From there it's a short wander around the corner to the Sun, where we have the Roxy to ourselves for a private screening of Wicker.
Olivia Colman plays a fisherwoman on the edge of a small seaside town who commissions a husband made of wicker, and the town does not cope well. Alexander Skarsgard, Peter Dinklage, Elizabeth Debicki and Richard E. Grant round out the cast.
It's small on purpose. 23 seats in the Roxy's lounge chairs, one long lunch, one good film, and a room of women from the west.
Cost is $110 and included in that price is:
A spritz on arrival at Bar Gabi, with a non-alcoholic option
A sharing lunch menu from the Bar Gabi kitchen
A private screening of Wicker in the Roxy at the Sun Theatre
Any extra drinks at lunch go on your own tab, and the Sun's candy bar is open before the film if you want a choc top or a glass to take in.
Good to know
Arrive at Bar Gabi at 2pm. .
We'll be seated upstairs across two tables, so you'll get to properly talk to the women around you, with room to move between them.
We'll walk to the Sun together at 4.10pm. The film starts on time and can't be held, so please stay with the group.
Tell us about any dietary requirements when you book and we'll pass them on to the kitchen.
Tickets are non-refundable, but if you can't make it you can list yours for resale from your ticket and you'll be refunded once it sells. Resales close Friday 6 November at 5pm.
There are only 23 seats. If we sell out, join the waitlist and you'll be first to hear about any ticket that comes back.
