Event description

A weekend of growth, empowerment and inspiration, a celebration of our female surfing community - a surf competition like no other.

Sunny Sets is an immersive two-day surf event for women of all ages, hosted by the Noosa Malibu Club.

Saturday morning will open with a paddle out, water blessing and acknowledgement of Country. Both days will include a sunrise yoga and breathwork session on the beach, with a focus on surf-specific strength and flexibility, mindfulness practice and intention setting.

Saturday is all about fun, learning and development – professional longboarders and accredited surf coaches and judges will assess each "practice" heat. Video analysis of each wave caught will be filmed. Following the heats, surfers will be able to sit with the coaches and watch the footage, gaining insight and guidance about where they gained or could gained points. General advice and skills progression tips will be shared.

Sunday will encourage surfers to apply the knowledge and insight gained from the day before and apply them in competition – a traditional format surf contest will be held, with 20 minute heats, 5 women per heat. Everyone gets to surf at least two heats, with requal rounds, semi finals and finals for each category. Surfers will judge a heat (with guidance from the professional judges), miss a heat, then surf their heat.

Surfers can enter one age category, and one other category (open, team challenge or novice).

...Note on the "novice" category: If you can catch a wave, stand up, and glide forward along the face of the wave, then you are a "novice". If you can cut-back (turn), or if you can cross-step, then you are not a "novice".

The Queensland Government provided funding to the Noosa Malibu Club for Sunny Sets Women's Surf Contest to enable participation in sport and recreation activities.
