Sunshine Coast Big Butterfly Count

Join us for the Sunshine Coast's Big Butterfly Count this November. Spend your morning learning about our pollinators and their host plants while surveying their diversity. This will be the second Butterfly Count survey at Gull’bu rah Environment Reserve, Yandina, which has a population of Birdwing Butterfly Vine (Pararistolochia praevenosa) the host plant to Near Threatened Richmond Birdwing Butterfly (Ornithoptera richmondia). 

Tickets include 3 native tube stock butterfly host plants, native pollinator species and a resource list.

What is the Big Butterfly Count?

Sunshine Coast's Big Butterfly Count is a series of butterfly surveys around the Sunshine Coast November during Pollinator Week. These surveys are a collaboration between local Landcare's and environmental community groups.

Butterflies are a significant part of our ecosystem, a food source for our native fauna and an important pollinator for our native flora. Having complex relationships with ants like the Lycaenid the Blues. A charismatic flagship species for conservation and an important keystone species. Butterflies are in major decline due to climate change, land clearing, and urbanisation. They need our help!
