Get Ready for Emergencies: Person-centred Emergency Preparedness

Emergencies and severe weather events can happen at any time. Being prepared can help you feel more confident and know what to do when you need extra support.

Join QDN and Sunshine Coast Council for a free, inclusive and accessible two-part workshop about Person-centred Emergency Preparedness (P-CEP).

P-CEP is a practical approach that helps people with disability and people with additional health or support needs to plan for emergencies based on their individual needs, circumstances and support networks.

Together, we’ll explore how to prepare for events such as:

Bushfires
Heatwaves
Power outages
Other emergencies that may affect your support needs

The workshops are designed to be inclusive, accessible, fun and free. You’ll learn practical steps to help you prepare for an emergency and make a plan that works for you.

Attend Part A to:

Identify your strengths and support needs in everyday life
Know your level of emergency preparedness and learn about your disaster risk

Attend Part B to:

Plan for how you will manage your support needs in an emergency

Communicate the plan with the people in your support network and address gaps through collaboration

Who should attend?

This workshop is for people with disability, their carers, family and supporters.

Please attend both sessions

The workshop is delivered across two parts, and it is important to attend both.

Part A: Friday 9 October, 10:00 to 11:30 am
Part B: Friday 16 October, 10:00 to 11:30 am

Queenslanders with Disability Network (QDN) is a state-wide not-for-profit organisation of, by, and for people with diverse disability. All our work is focused on disability rights and advocacy. QDN’s work is centred around a strong network of people across Queensland and almost 30 peer support groups which inform, connect, lead, and influence change.

We are a vibrant, active network of influencers, decision-makers, spokespeople, consultants, group members and peer leaders with a drive to make change happen. We also work on projects that align with our vision and mission around important issues in the lives of people with disability. We believe it’s important to work together with communities, services, business, industry and government to lead and influence change.
