Event description

Welcome to the inaugural Sunshine Coast Sports Symposium

The Sunshine Coast is ‘the’ destination and is quickly becoming known for more than its scenic environment, beaches, and hinterland. The growth was seen in the sporting and technology sectors, on the coast, has significantly increased with interest for the sporting industry to visit, explore, and learn.

The establishment of partnerships alongside notable sporting brands such as the Melbourne Storm, the Sunshine Coast Lighting, and the Australian Cycling Academy, coupled with the sports research, technology, and facilities available at the University of Sunshine Coast, has established such credibility for the region toward the wider sporting community.

As part of the Sunshine Coast Regional Council and the University of Sunshine Coast’s strategy for growing the sports Industry within the region, as well as building upon its reputation as a key destination location for sporting organisations, we are pleased to present The Sunshine Coast Sports Symposium.

This 3-day symposium presents the best that the Sunshine Coast has to offer in terms of sporting services, research capabilities, venues, and training facilities. The Symposium model addresses, ‘Skills’, ‘Opportunities’, ‘Access and Resources’, as well as collaborating with our industry partners such as Disability Sports Australia and Sunshine Coast Sports, to provide a showcase of current sporting topics; all naturally complemented by the backdrop of scenic oceans, hinterlands and national parks.

What is the DSA National Conference?

The Disability Sports Australia National Conference is the headline event of the Sunshine Coast Sports Symposium and is the inaugural National Disability Sports Conference aiming to get more Australians with a disability more active, more often. The Conference will bring together leaders in sport, disability, education, allied health, government and community discussing the importance of collaboration in breaking down the barriers to sport and physical activity participations of Australians with disabilities.

The 2022 Conference theme is the Runway to Brisbane 2032: Maximising collaborative participation for people with disabilities in sport on the pathway to Brisbane 2032.
