This training session is suitable for frontline and leadership roles in homelessness, social housing, and housing/social justice work.

Training includes facilitator led content with reflective training exercises and learner workbook.

Overview:

Housing justice work is challenging. People in need of housing justice supports are vulnerable and experience multiple marginalisations. People working in housing justice are at risk of burnout, vicarious trauma, and post-traumatic stress. Many people working in housing justice also have lived experiences of the challenges they are trying to solve. High quality supervision and opportunities for reflection and debriefing are critical.

Supervision and Debriefing Supports for Housing Justice will support learners to explore and practice supervision, reflection, and debriefing strategies. This course emphasises self-awareness, systems thinking, and the development of tools to to support effective and sustainable housing justice work.

Skye Constantine has over 20 years of experience in homelessness, social housing, and housing justice work.

They are a founding member of the Lived Experience Led Homelessness Alliance and a sessional trainer for the Community Housing Industry Association Victoria. They are currently completing a PhD exploring how lived/living experiences, participatory practices, and transformational democratic knowledges could lead to better outcomes in the homelessness services sector.

Skye’s approach to training is to start with the wisdom of lived/living experiences and to encourage reflective practices that consider personal/shared values, others’ experiences, the available evidence, and conventional/traditional knowledges. They are passionate about social and housing justice, and ready to support you with all of your homelessness, social housing, housing justice, and social justice practice needs.

Skye has worked with lived/living experience led groups, community services, activist groups, peak bodies, and public/community housing providers in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, and South Australia. Their background experiences include project management, training development, community development, research and evaluation, service design, policy development, grants and reporting, operations management, and front line services including case management, tenancy management, and street outreach. These experiences have been scaffolded by training in occupational therapy, psychology, social science, education, and management, and enriched through explorations of mindfulness, self compassion, trauma informed care, and other reflective practices.
