Event description

Are you a teacher or educator of a student with a Pathological Demand Avoidant (PDA) Profile?

Do you have an Autistic child or adolescent in your school whose behaviour is hard to understand? Their parents may report that they behave differently at home than they do at school. No matter what you try, the approaches and accommodations that have worked for other neurodivergent students are not helping this student to engage in the classroom.

It may be that this student has a Pathological Demand Avoidant (PDA) profile. Those with a PDA profile have an anxiety-driven need to feel in control most of the time and often avoid everyday demands and expectations (even activities they want to do). PDAers do not usually respond to traditional teaching approaches and educators need to access alternative training to support and engage these young people educationally.

This live webinar will address:

  • What PDA is and how it relates to Autism.
  • What are demands and common PDA responses to them?
  • What is currently happening in schools for PDAers?
  • Ways that educators can engage these students using a PDA approach and a personalised curriculum.
  • Tips for building emotional and social development in PDA students.
  • Self-care for educators.
  • Signposting to resources & support.

The webinar will be recorded and available to view for up to 30 days following the live event. The event link and webinar handbook will be emailed to attendees the week prior to the event.
