About the workshop
Addressing dating in the context of disability and rehabilitation can sometimes be a bit daunting for clinicians. While dating may be an important goal for clients, knowing how to provide effective support in this area isn’t always straightforward. This 2.5-hour online workshop is designed to help case managers, support coordinators, other allied health professionals in the fundamentals of supporting our clients’ dating goal.
The workshop will cover:
Supporting clients to meet new people and build meaningful relationships
Coaching clients on safe, respectful relationships and identifying "red flags"
Addressing ableism, mental health, and adjustment in the dating context
Promoting sexual and personal safety
Developing interpersonal communication skills for dating with a disability
Building clinician confidence in supporting clients’ dating goals
About the presenters
Candice Care-Unger (she/her)
Candice Care-Unger is a specialist social worker and psychosexual therapist who has worked in hospital and community rehabilitation since 2006 across Australia, New Zealand, Scotland, and New York. She is the Director of Care Rehab and has a focus on supporting individuals and families to navigate the psychosocial, relational, and identity impacts of catastrophic injury. Candice is a skilled educator and trainer, facilitating online and in-person workshops throughout the year. Candice also provides clinical supervision for other allied health clinicians in 1:1 and group formats.
Jason Bransby-Bell (he/him)
Jason is a compassionate clinician focused on helping clients regain independence and reconnect with daily life following serious injury or illness. He values collaboration with families, support workers, and professionals to achieve meaningful outcomes. With over 16 years of experience, Jason has worked in leading brain injury rehabilitation services across Melbourne, Sydney, and regional NSW, including the Epworth Acquired Brain Injury Rehabilitation Unit and Royal Rehab’s Brain Injury Rehabilitation Service. He has presented at national and international conferences and published clinical research on cognitive-communication disorders and service development in traumatic brain injury rehabilitation. Jason remains actively involved in research and service innovation. Jason is a Certified Practising Member of Speech Pathology Australia and is a member of the Australasian Society for the Study of Brain Impairment.
