Supporting your child through high school
General Family Workshop
This workshop is specifically designed for parents who have a child currently attending high school, or starting high school in 2021.
The following topics to be covered in the session include:
- What to expect;
- Who to talk to at high school;
- What support your child might be eligible to access at school;
- Preparing your child for the transition from primary to high school;
- Creating and implementing systems to support academic expectations – learning new routines, use of organisational folders, assignment break down, and recording homework;
- Bullying prevention and strategies;
- Management of School related stress an anxiety ;
- What to do if things are not going well; and
- Post school pathways – transition from school to tertiary study/employment/other e.g Day

Family Workshops are designed for any family member including parents, carers, siblings and extended family members with a loved one on the autism spectrum. The workshops provide examples and strategies that are relevant for family members.

Workshop Definitions:
GENERAL WORKSHOPS are designed to give participants an introductory understanding of the autism spectrum and provide key strategies to support individuals in a range of settings. This is achieved through facilitation of information, videos content, activities and discussion.
It is recommended that participants attend an Autism SA General Workshops prior to attending an Autism SA In-Focus Workshop or Masterclass unless they have a good, current understanding of the autism spectrum.
IN FOCUS WORKSHOPS are designed for participants that have a good, current understanding of autism that what a more in-depth knowledge and understanding relating to a particular area of the autism field and greater confidence in applying strategies to support individuals in this area. This is achieved through facilitation of information, video content, activities and discussion.
MASTERCLASSES are short intensive workshops that are designed to provide participants that already have a good, current understanding of autism with specific content relating to a particular topic, strategy or program. This is achieved through facilitation of information, video content, activities and discussion.
